Seksu Roba’s Pleasure Vibrations is an ecstatic trip to space, as envisioned by the 1960’s: think of it as the band that Judy Jetson would have fronted if she could sing. Fashion focused designer and artist Lun*na Menoh’s purrs and poses over the space age squiggles, light saber synth lines, and virtuoso theramin action of producer Sukho Lee, and the result is a fun, sexy romp across the Milky Way. Though synth driven, this is not electroclash: its space-age bachelor pad music, or the soundtrack to your layover on the moon on your way to Mars.
But Seksu Roba’s not a one trick pony: the range of moods on this record is as wide as the galaxy. “LA Freeway” has Lun*na doing her best Miss Kittin, as she speak/sings over an upbeat but edgy cocktail of quirky basslines and high-pitched synth washes, while “Afternoon Rendez-vous” is a soft and sensuous bubblebath of synthetic samba. Instrumental “Up Up and Away” is a just-short-of-cheesy downtempo slow jam, with intermittent sonic shooting stars. Closing up with the eerie and otherwordly “Improvisation for 5 Theremins,” Pleasure Vibrations is one out-there trip you don’t want to miss.
