KEANE Plays Afternoon World Cup Halftime
.
Quote:
& San Francisco Club Gig, Releases ''Under the Iron Sea'' All on June 20, 2006--KEANE is confirmed to do a rare World Cup halftime performance for the England vs. Sweden game, live from the Virgin Megastore in Hollywood, Calif. The band will hit the stage at approximately 12:45 p.m. PST for a two-song set to be televised on ESPN and ABC and streamed live through Amp'd Mobile.
KEANE has returned to American soil to promote their sophomore release, "Under the Iron Sea" (Interscope), which hits stores that same date. The album already debuted at #1 in the UK, selling 222,297 copies. "Under the Iron Sea" expands on the sonic palette of the band's 2004 debut, "Hopes and Fears," which sold some 5 million copies worldwide. As evidenced by the first single "Is It Any Wonder?" and the pre-release track "Atlantic" (which featured a video by author Irvine Welsh of "Trainspotting" infamy), "Under the Iron Sea" moves toward a bold and smoldering, at times darkly intense sound while retaining the lush songwriting craft of the band's debut.
KEANE hits the road to play a handful of intimate U.S. club dates the week of "Under the Iron Sea's" release, beginning as they jet out immediately after the World Cup performance to play San Francisco that evening.
